Back To School And Settling In

OpenSourceKyle

I’ve walked around CDMX more. I checked out Polanco, and I’m glad I did – I didn’t like it either. It’s nice (very expensive – yes even with the currency conversion), but not really immersive since there are more expats there. If I took classes there, I would have missed out on the cool cultural events the university does (e.g. biweekly salsa, celebrations, workshops, etc.). The streets look nice yet sterile and hardly anyone was walking around. I finished registration today and am moving to my permanent housing later this week. I’m a full-blown student with all the benefits; classes are 20hr/wk Spanish + 4hr/wk salsa classes.

Next Mission: move to next housing and start classes on Thursday

Actions

  • Got my metro card and rode the metrotren… metrobus kept going past me at the bus stop. Probably because I’m white and don’t look like I should use the bus LOL
  • Worked out at a calisthenics park near me (I also have gym access on campus)
  • Walked 8+ mi around Polanco until my feet and head hurt
  • Had first weekly accountability meeting with a best friend… we’re pushing each other weekly to meet goals we set together
  • Finished class registration – tested into level 4 of 8 total. Taking Spanish level 4, grammar, and salsa for my subjects
  • Booked and paid for my permanent housing for the next 2 months
  • Many dating matches (thank Jeebus I’m exotic down here), but logistics won’t be good until I move. I’ll pitch some dates anyway… I want to see more of the city and take some chicas on some dates

Mentality

I feel super blessed to be here. I will probably continue to be overwhelmed for a while. It is incredibly beautiful (even the ugly parts), the food is great, people are wonderful, and all that other crap. For me, CDMX has everything that I need within walking distance, and I’ll be living right next to campus. Here’s to becoming fluent and hopefully bringing some pinche gringo light to people’s lives
